Ice Skating

The Wife did something she hadn’t done in 30 years: ice skating.

The boy has been learning to skate for the purposes of a youth hockey league thing. He’s getting there, but the only chance he’s had to get on the ice are the Sunday mornings when his “Learn-to-skate” time. Today we decided to take him again in the evening when the rink has a family skate time as well.

The Wife gets that assignment since I don’t have ice skates and I doubt they’d be easy to come by in my size. She was a nervous nelly right up until she got on the ice. After about 5 minutes, she was moving around and finally started having fun. After it was over I told her it looked like she finally stopped worrying she’d fall and split her head open. She’ll be good and sore tomorrow, regardless the fact that she didn’t fall.

The boy had fun too. Although after getting outside in the snow at 7:30 this morning, then skating, then getting back outside to sled, then napping, then going back outside prior to dinner for more sledding and finally ending up back on the ice at 6:30, he’d pretty much run out of steam. He wants to do too much too quickly. But he’s enjoying himself and as long as that’s the case, we’ll keep taking him skating.

So the Wife gets to keep having all the fun.
