The dearth of posting over the past couple of days was due largley to a visit with the family over the weekend. We got there late Thursday night and got back home late Sunday evening. Among other niceties, I finally got to watch some college football- and they were good games as well.
As it happens, Santa had his elves make an early visit to my parent’s home since somehow he knew the kids were going to be there. The boy and the lass were both trying to reconcile that. How’d he know they were going to be there?
They’ll just have to keep wondering.
The Sister made a most excellent feast for Saturday evening. It was an early-Thanksgiving dinner. The kids even ate most of their food- including brussel sprouts. Amazing what a little “dessert” temptation can do.
One of the highlights of the vist was my niece. Prior to this visit, she had basically taken a “see-no-evil” approach to me. Basically, that means that she would pretend I didn’t exist. If she happened to make eye contact with me, she would look away and refused to acknowledge me after that. With that history in mind, I hand decided that I wasn’t going to play her games this time around. To my pleasant surprise, she didn’t play games with me. I even got a kiss and a hug when it was time to go home and she let me carry her around a little. The only “bad” moment came when I snuck up behind her and put a giant stocking over her little body. (For the record, I could fit in the stocking.) She didn’t care for that and went running for Mom. Can’t wait to throw her in a pool next year…
It was a very pleasant time. It’s nice to go “home.” It’s easy to relax and unwind there. The Wife visited and knitted with Mom and I sat around watching football with Dad. The kids do there thing.
I’m sure that Mom is glad to have her quiet mornings back. Similarly, I think Dad’s happy not to have the squiggler sitting on him. Personally, I’m glad I don’t have to listen to the Bird bark anymore. The Cat was sorry to see the Kids go- he spent most of the weekend chasing the ball of string the kids trailed behind them. Deep down, my Niece was probably glad to see me go- though I doubt that she felt similarly about the kids.
A good time was had by all.
