So we’re outside tidying up the yard before Sandy starts to get wound up here when the boy come running up to me and says “Dad, there’s a beaver and Mom wants you to take a look at the tree. The actual tree in question is a bit further down in the pictures, but after looking at it, I started looking around generally. The little critter has been keeping himself occupied of late.
The most remarkable thing is that all of this has been happening within the passed couple of weeks.
The pictures are after the jump.
I’ve got a picture of the dam at the end. I suspect the smaller tree that he took down there on the left is part of it.
I wonder why they stop? Perhaps they don’t like the taste or something.
This one, particularly, is worrisome for us. It’s within about 80 feet of the house and, as the next picture shows, this is a tall tree. I suspect that if it comes down, it will hit the deck, though it won’t hit the house. Regardless, the tree is dead since he stripped the bark all the way around. We’ll be calling someone in to take it down. Great timing with the storm.
This tree is pretty far from the house, but it’s a good sized one. Probably about 70 feet tall. It’s some kind of birch, based on the look of the wood. Maybe he wanted to make soda.
I don’t know how we didn’t know this tree fell when it did. Maybe because no one was around to hear it.
This one gives a better idea for how tall it was. Why he finished this one, but left others doesn’t make any sense. But then, I’m not a beaver.
This is a smaller tree he took down. Destructive little bugger.
At least I know where he lives.
