As always at this time of year, I get a little giddy about the prospect of the worst sports season coming to an end and the best sports season beginning. I am an unabashed fan of football, both college and pro. The only thing I don’t care for is all of the ridiculous media hype around it all.
Along these lines, I’d just like to say that I hope Michael Vick has learned lessons and is able to excel at whatever position the Eagles use him at. I’m quite sure his time as a QB is done, except for the odd trick play or some kind of special package put in for him. I’m not looking forward to the media treatment of his resurrection, should it occur, but I can largely ignore it.
The other thing I’ll add is that even though, by the numbers I consider Brett Favre a shoe-in Hall of Famer, I think the last few years have really dimmed my impressions of him. He has clearly passed his prime and I suspect that his body and mind will prove unable to handle the rigors of the season. I suspect he’ll have a good 1st quarter of the season, and slowly slide from there. I’m sure time will dampen the memories of the past few seasons with Favre, but there is little doubt now, in my mind, as to the levels of arrogance that his success has nurtured within himself. Perhaps this season will finally be his final season.
Be that as it may, I am still looking forward to the season and all the incredible moments of glory that await its participants. These are the moments that make the sport so thoroughly entertaining and a big reason that it is clearly America’s past time. The official start can’t get here quick enough.
