{"id":408,"date":"2009-09-26T22:05:08","date_gmt":"2009-09-27T02:05:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sahd.lamafam.org\/?p=408"},"modified":"2009-09-29T07:04:19","modified_gmt":"2009-09-29T11:04:19","slug":"denyhosts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sahd.lamafam.org\/?p=408","title":{"rendered":"Denyhosts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I finally got fed up with the attempts to crack my ssh server. \u00a0I&#8217;ve taken the usual precautions with its configuration- I just don&#8217;t like the idea of unimpeded attempts at cracking it.<\/p>\n<p>I looked at a bunch of different ways to deal with it but most seemed too complicated for my purposes. \u00a0All I really wanted was something that would shut down an attacker after some number of consecutive failed attempts.\u00a0 I found Denyhosts today and liked what I saw, particularly its simplicity. \u00a0So I decided to give it a go.<\/p>\n<p>It didn&#8217;t disappoint, shuting off a new attacker this evening. \u00a0When it started for the first time, it also scans the logs for previous attempts and shuts them down as well.\u00a0 If I had more complicated access needs it might not be quite the thing. \u00a0But given my fairly straight forward needs, it looks like it&#8217;ll be just fine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I finally got fed up with the attempts to crack my ssh server. \u00a0I&#8217;ve taken the usual precautions with its configuration- I just don&#8217;t like the idea of unimpeded attempts at cracking it.
